4 ways To Help Eliminate Eczema

I have been meaning to write this post for some time now, and the time has come.  I have had great talks with two different people just this week about how I was able to manage, deal with, and eventually get rid of eczema on my body.  As I prepared for this post, I did some digging thru my external drive to find images to share with you.  When I see these images it makes me a little emotional, to be honest.  It makes me wonder what people thought when they would see my body covered in red rashes.  Well actually, I know what some thought on my trip to Mexico……the locals laughed at and said I got attacked by mosquitos!  My heart weeps when I see others struggle with what I had once really struggled with.  And because I know the feelings, pain, and the struggle, I want to share this with everyone in hopes that they may find answers to helping, maintaining, or even getting rid of eczema that affects them.  4 ways that I eliminated eczema

So, as to avoid all of my stories of scratching, weeping, bleeding, and wrapping my arms and legs so I wouldn’t scratch or to help maintain the weeping of eczema that I dealt with, I will now share with you things that I believe helped me to continually to get better and to maintain clear skin now for 11 years.  I do believe that it is a process, and everything that I tried helped my progression.  Now these things may not work for you, but if it feels right, give them a try.  Many things that I tried worked for quite some time and then it seemed like my body became immune to it. I was never able to get it completely gone with just one product or trick.  So definitely give things a try, don’t give up.  You can find relief.

  1. Freederm HC.  I often forget to tell people about this amazing cream when I begin to tell them of things that have helped me.  I probably forget because it was 2006 when I used it!  Here is a before and after picture of my legs when I began to use Freederm HC.  This is possibly after a week or two of using it.  I used this cream until it seemed to do all that it could for me, and it was time to try something else.  After using the cream, things did stay improved and eliminated the weeping of the rash.  Freederm HC is highly recommended!4 ways to help eliminate eczema

2. Hazelwood Necklace.   I stumbled on to this site after my sister-in-law told me about their teething necklaces.  I began to read all of the testimonials on the site and came across the testimonials for eczema.  WOW.  I couldn’t wait to get these necklaces for me and my family to try out.  My first order I got a necklace for me and for my oldest son who has eczema as well.  (His just isn’t as extreme as mine was.)  My son noticed how much it helped, that whenever he has a breakout, he goes and gets his necklace on.  The hazelwood necklace helped me out a lot as well and I feel like it was the last step that my body needed to eliminate the majority of eczema that I had.  (Side note: after I saw a change for my son and I.  I got a hazelwood + amber beads necklace for my baby when he was 6 months old.  He has been a dream as far as teething goes, compared to my other three kids.  If he doesn’t have his necklace on for 3 to 4 weeks, eczema starts to breakout on him.)  I absolutely love these necklaces.  Read the testimonials for yourself!!  Oh, and when you click on the Hazelwood Necklace link, you should receive a 10% off coupon.  If not, let me know…  Hazelwood necklace for eczema

(Here is what the necklace with the amber beads looks like.  Just needed to get a cute picture in this post somehow of my little guy.)

3. O’Keeffe’s Hand Cream.  While visiting family in Utah, my husband and I went into a grocery store and I caught this cream out of the corner of my eye.  I figured it was worth a shot.  My hands had massive cracks in them and looked similar to the picture on the packaging.  Oh, how it HURT the first few times that I put on this cream!  But pretty much everything at that point hurt, even water.  I decided to faithfully try this cream, and it helped immensely.  With this cream, the canyons on my fingers and palms were gone!  I keep this cream on hand if and when my hands begin to crack, what a lifesaver!Amazing cream for eczema

4. I eliminated harsh chemicals in my everyday.  Ok, follow me here.  I had come to the conclusion that I needed to minimize my everyday products with chemicals, and limit my hands in water.  My hands have been the hardest to clear up, but they are 90% clear!

     – I changed my deodorant to Arm & Hammer Deodorant.  By doing this, it eliminated aluminum and antiperspirant.  Now get this, when I changed to this deodorant not only did I feel like I was eliminating chemicals BUT I got all new white shirts to see if the myth that my darling husband told me was true, and it is!  I can honestly say that I no longer have armpit stains in my t-shirts and undershirts.  Fist bump….I’m not kidding!  Can you believe that my husband didn’t tell me why he preferred deodorant over antiperspirant/deodorant until 2 years ago.  When he told me that the antiperspirant is what causes armpit stains, I realized that in the 14 years that we have been married, he has NEVER had armpit stains!  Yes, I admit, my husband schooled me on this and I am pleased.

     – I know this may sound gross, but I noticed a difference.  I shampoo and condition my hair once a week.  On other days of the week, I wash my hair with baking soda.  That reminds me, I need to refill my baking soda container in my shower!  Check out this post at Hello Giggles, she explains it well.

     – I went from taking a wet washcloth and cleaning my counter tops, to spraying them with tough and tender from Melaleuca and wiping them off.  This keeps my hands out of the water which seems to agitate eczema.  And it smells great!  Win-win in my book.  I also use many other Melaleuca products that due to the fact that they have eliminated the harsh chemicals!

These are the top 4 things that I can think of right off of my head that have helped me.  What are some things that you have tried and saw improvements on eczema?

O Holy Night – – FREE Printable

As the snow falls magnificently to the ground, these thoughts flow thru my head.

O Holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth

I have wanted the perfect print to add to my gallery wall for Christmas, and this song kept coming to mind, O Holy night.  While in the design process of this print, I had only intended to have the words in the corner.  But just as I got the print ready to share a with you, I realized the print just felt empty.  When I sat back down a few hours later to upload it to the blog, I was in awe as the design finally came to me.  The process of how I needed to do it just flowed as I began.  The finishing touch it needed was a manger with the Christ child laying in it.   This is truly an inspired by Kayla moment.  I hope that you enjoy this free Christmas print.  I personally can’t wait to print it and add it to my Christmas decor.

How to freeze fresh tomatoes

how-to-freeze-tomatoesIt’s that time of year.  The last few things in the garden are ready!  What are you going to do with it all?  I admit, this is the first time I have had a successful garden.  Now when I say had, I mean, my sister and I helped our 90-year-old Grandpa with his amazing successful garden that many people have envied over the years.  Boy, we got schooled!  Grandpa shook his head many times at us about some things, for instance, the two rows of beans additional to his row of beans.  Yeah, I had no idea a number of beans we would have!  When I mentioned this to Grandpa, he laughed so hard he began to cry.  I don’t think I have ever seen my Grandpa laugh more than a chuckle.  It was priceless.

Ok, on to what to do when you have a very successful crop of tomatoes.  My mother had an amazing crop.  She has freeze dried many tomatoes in her Harvest Right in-home freeze dryer, and froze many bags for salsa to get her thru the winter.  I love going to my moms and trying what she has freeze dried, the tomatoes are pretty strong and to me taste exactly like tomato soup with one bite!  I haven’t taken the time to reconstitute what she dries because I love them just dried. She has also done many other things, and I have done a few.  I’ll have a blog post soon of some of the things that we have freeze dried, that are oh so yummy!

Wow, I’m rambling today, sorry.  Onto freezing garden fresh tomatoes.  My mom freeze dried and froze all that she needed and passed the excess onto my sister in law and I.  This is what we did with ours.  This process took a lot less time than I was dreading.  Probably from garden tomato to diced, bagged and ready to go in the freezer tomatoes took about 45 mins to an hour.

First I filled a Water-Bath Canner (this one is a whole kit) with water and put it on the stove to boil. filling-pot-with-water

While waiting for the pot to boil, I washed off the skins of all of the tomatoes I had.  I didn’t have a big batch, but just enough for me and my family.  Once the water in the water-bath was boiling, I put all of the tomatoes I had into the pot.  Let them boil for 10 minutes or so and check them occasionally.  What you are looking for is cracking in the skins.

As I found tomatoes that had cracks in the skins or the skins were floating off, I put them in a bowl and transferred them to my sink that was filled with cold water and ice.  This cools them down for handling.  Once the tomatoes were cool enough to touch, I would gently peel off the skins.

After I got all of the skin off of the tomato, I cut the tomato in half, quarters if it was a good sized tomato, and would place it in the center of the Chopper.

As the chopper got full, I would dump it into another bowl.  Once I got all of the tomatoes diced and in another bowl, I used my 2 Cup Plastic Measuring Cup (oh I want these!) and poured it into Ziploc Quart Freezer Bags.pouring-diced-tomatoes-into-freezer-bag

Zip up the freezer bag and you’re done!!  Don’t forget to write tomatoes and the year on the bag 😉

I plan on using these bags for salsa and soups.  I will just replace one bag for 1 can of diced tomatoes.  Can’t wait to try it out.  I will let you know how it goes and will also share my super easy salsa recipe soon!

How to love laundry day

Yes, I did say L O V E laundry day!

I absolutely love laundry day.  It is a day that I focus on laundry.  No, it doesn’t always get done on that one day, but a majority of it does.  And on my lucky days when it does get ALL done, I don’t have to think about it at all the REST OF THE WEEK!  Isn’t that awesome?  One huge weekly task is done in one day. Disclaimer: you must have a weeks worth of clothes (underwear especially) to be able to do this.

I am going to share with you tips and tricks to loving laundry day.  It hasn’t always been this way, but when I finally realized a good system to it, I have loved it ever since.  I hope that you can incorporate things into your laundry task to help you love it.

So here is how my laundry day goes….

  1. My kids know that laundry day is Monday. (Yes, I love laundry day and MONDAY! Call me crazy, but it’s my happy day.)  All clothes that are not in the laundry room and sorted by the time I get done with laundry, is their responsibility.  My son learned this the hard way.  My kids sort all of their laundry in the designated bins.  At our house the first bin is jeans, second whites, third colors, fourth towels, and fifth (which is the white laundry basket at the end) is for delicates.  Delicates is anything that doesn’t go in the dryer.Sorting Laundry
    laundry delicates
  2. I usually start my day with a load of colors….due to the fact that the color drawer is usually overloaded by the time two of my kids sort their laundry, so I need to free up some space.
  3. I start my first load first thing in the morning while the kids are getting ready for school.
  4. I go about my morning doing my daily tasks while waiting for the first load to go in the dryer and get the second load started.
  5. Now here is my FIRST BIG RULE: once a load of laundry is dried, you cannot start the next load until you have folded what you just took out of the dryer.  This has been my lifesaver.  Once I figured this out, I began to finally like doing the laundry.  Mostly because I was never overwhelmed with a huge pile of laundry to fold.

Now here are some tips to simplify and love folding your laundry.

    1. Place dried clothes on top of dryer.  You can put them on a counter or anywhere else needed, just take them all out of the dryer so you can begin drying your next load if it’s ready.folding
    2. Fold pants, underwear and such as usual and place shirts that need to be folded over dryer door or a chair or lay them flat on a counter.  Use whatever you have in the room.  By laying one shirt on top of another, it will speed up the folding process. For shirts that you like to hang, I will explain what I do in a minute.lay-shirts-over-door
    3. Once you have all of the shirts that are dried, lay them face down on a flat surface.lay-shirt-flat  Begin by folding the top side (length wise) in half farthest away from you,folding-shirts then fold the other side of the shirt closest to you over the side you just folded. (I use the collar on each side as the fold point.)folding-shirts_1Then take ends and meet in the middle. folding-shirts_2Fold in half and your done.folding-shirts_3  This makes for a great folded shirt and even better for having more room in drawers. I will post a picture of how I put folded shirts in drawers soon.
    4. Once I have the shirt folded, I place it in the basket of who it belongs to.folded-laundry-in-basket
    5. Now here is how to simplify hanging shirts. Slip your left hand in right shirt sleeve of the shirt. How to love laundry day: a system to hanging shirts
Add another shirt to your arm until you have a few shirts on your arm. (Sorry so much pink.  If they aren’t pink shirts then the shirts are gray!)How to love laundry day: a system to hanging shirts

Take hanger with right hand and slip the hook side of hanger into right shoulder.  Hang up shirt and continue putting hanger into next shirt. How to love laundry day: a system to hanging shirts
6. SOCKS: Oh how I use to hate matching up socks until I came across this tip. How to love laundry day: Folding Socks SystemLay socks flat and place one matching sock on top of another into a big pile of socks.  When you have them all sorted this way, you put the stack in front of you and start to fold the top two together.  How to love laundry day: Folding Socks System

How to love laundry day: Folding Socks System

If you like to fold another way, go for it!  This just gets them matched up conveniently so you can get them folded quickly.

7. After all of my drawers are emptied, I do my delicate wash clothes.  I hang my delicate clothes on a folding drying rack.  I recently got a new one and have loved it so far.  I can put a lot more clothes on it then I could the old wooden one I had before.

I think that is a wrap!  Here is the end result of my laundry room.hanging-laudry

laundry-is-doneEverything washed, folded and ready for the kids to put their laundry away.  I have them put their laundry away on Tuesday after school, and that leaves my laundry room nice and clean and no evidence that I haven’t done my laundry for the rest of the week.  I LOVE not having to think about it again until next Monday!  Try it out and comment when you fall in love  with doing laundry.  (Just like you would if you were on Dave Ramsey and you were debt free 😉 )

Disclaimer: I don’t restrict myself from doing things  or going places on Monday.  If something comes up, then laundry day flows into Tuesday.  I don’t make a huge deal out of it, I just like to get it done at the first of the week.  Try it out!  It might take a month to start to love it, but it is totally worth loving!!  I even love ironing after 14 years of marriage.  I had hated ironing about as much as most people hate laundry.

How to love laundry day. A much needed task that everyone has to do, so why not love it!! Here are tips and tricks that I love about laundry day.

How to make easy caramel popcorn

easy-caramel-popcornOoey, gooey caramel popcorn…..I THINK SO!!I have always enjoyed when other people make caramel popcorn. It is so delicious and a perfect touch to a sweet craving.

I have always enjoyed when other people make caramel popcorn. It is so delicious and a perfect touch to a sweet craving.  It seems to cure my sweet tooth every time.

I have always feared caramel popcorn due to the understanding that it is complicated. (Remeber, I am not much of a cook….yet!)  I must have just been told this when I was little, due to parents not wanting to make it for me!  Now that I am a parent, I completely understand why they would say that.

I came across this easy simple recipe in a Ward cookbook, and it changed my thinking!  I can have  delicious gooey caramel popcorn in 15 mins!  15 minutes to a cure a craving, PERFECT!

Try it out for yourself! Caramel popcorn is a perfect fall treat.  My 11 year old usually makes the caramel while I pop the popcorn.  It’s that simple!

How to find out how many shutter clicks are on your camera

Have you ever thought about how many photos you have taken on your digital SLR camera?  how-to-find-out-how-many-shutter-clicks-on-camera-1

I have been a bit curious as to how many shutter clicks are on my cameras for some time.  I have tried a few times to figure it out but it seemed to take longer than 10 mins to even get to where I may have needed to be for directions on how to do it.  So I always gave up, it just took too much time to try and find out the answers on Google for this particular “how to”.

Well, it has come time to sell one of my beloved Nikon cameras, therefore the time is now to find out how many shutter clicks are my Nikon D800 which is my backup camera.  So I put in a little more time on Google….because Pinterest sadly didn’t have the answer.  I finally came across a website that would help me figure out shutter clicks on my camera in just a few clicks on my computer.

Guess what! Not even 5 minutes later, I had the shutter count on my Nikon D800.  All I had to do was upload the last image taken on my Nikon D800 and it instantly showed 18,835 clicks!  It was so easy, so simple, and kind of fun to know how many clicks are on my camera, that I figured I might as well see how many clicks are on my main camera, which is a Nikon D700 .  I knew that it would be plenty of clicks….but it has by far outworked my Nikon D800 by a few clicks.  The grand total for my Nikon D700 is……..194,938!!

Try it out for yourself at Camera Shutter Count.

How to make Easy Yummy Meatloaf

On a scale from 1 to 10 of ease, this is a 9 – – super simple

I am already dreaming of the next time I make this yummy meatloaf. I have never been a fan of meatloaf. In all honesty, I HATED meatloaf dinner growing up. I think that my older brother loved it so much because I despised it. You know how sibling rivalry can go. 😉

I came to love meatloaf when I attended dinner at my in-laws. I admit I was a little timid, but to be polite I ate it. Much to my surprise, it was DELICIOUS!!

I believe I asked for the recipe once, and my Mother-in-laws idea of a recipe is: I threw a little of this in, and some of that, and a pinch of this and mixed it all together. AHH! I am not good at following a recipe let alone a little of this and that and a pinch.

So many years later [possibly 10 yrs] I decided I was ready to attempt to make her meatloaf. This time, she gave me more of a recipe that I could follow. And that I did. I didn’t nail it the first time, but it was a good attempt. I am not much of a cook. I have the kitchen and many utensils of an amazing cook, but much past that, I still have improvement.

Last week I made meatloaf for dinner, and I killed it! It is so yummy, and easy, that I feel like I am one step closer to being an amazing cook. The kids and hubby even approve. THAT means 5 stars!! [which is amazing for my picky palette family]

Try it out and let me know how you love it. It is just as good the next day for lunch. Yum Yum.

Simple and delicious!

Free Print – – If You Want To Give Light To Others You Have To Glow Yourself

Free print for you.  A great reminder that if we want to lift up others, we must glow ourselves.

This stood out to me while I was reading thru a talk from Neill F. Marriott, Sharing Your Light, from the October 2014 Ensign.  It says — President Thomas S. Monson pointed out, “If we want to give a light to others, you have to glow yourself.”  How can we keep that light of truth glowing within us?  Sometimes I feel like a dim lightbulb. How do we grow brighter?
